Aims of the collaboration
To build a long-term collaborative relationships in the fields of biogeochemistry and earth science between two globally recognised institutions.
To conduct preliminary experimental research into the roles of oxylipins in the sea.
Fellowship activities in 2013
Establishment of a framework for collaborative experiments between laboratories at the University of Southampton, the National Oceanography Centre Southampton and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
Fellowship activities in 2014
- Research cruise to the western subtropical North Atlantic, for which Dr Van Mooy was Chief Scientist
- Graduate student supervision and exchange
- Visit to Southampton, autumn 2014
- Lectures to undergraduate and Masters students on marine biogeochemistry.
Fellowship activities in 2015
- Supervision of graduate student project results in student poster presentation at 2015 ASLO (Aquatic Sciences) meeting
- Joint NOCS/WHOI publication in Frontiers in Marine Science (Sept 2015) based on graduate student research from the cruise
- Graduate student completed PhD and took up postdoctoral position at WHOI
- Visit to Southampton, Autumn
- Lectures to undergraduate students on marine biogeochemistry
- Seminar presentation for staff and PhD students: "An intersection between bioactive molecules, microbial interactions, and the ocean’s biological pump”
