Research studentships

Our Postgraduate Research Students are working at the cutting-edge of their disciplines, researching innovative solutions and novel ideas to some of the most critical issues facing the world today.

Many of our PhD students work closely with business partners through placements, projects and sponsorships. These studentships provide companies with access to cutting edge knowledge and skills from a wide range of academic disciplines.

How do Research Studentships work?

Research Councils UK (RCUK) provide significant investment in postgraduate research funding to the University of Southampton, utilising several modes of grant support which specifically require business engagement.

Such schemes include, but are not limited to, Doctoral Training Partnerships.

Many of these opportunities also enable our partners to make use of our world-leading facilities, as well as engaging in direct knowledge transfer activities.
