Pay your tuition fees

Some students will have their fees paid to us by the government. Others will need to pay their fees to us themselves.

Undergraduate students

For the 2023 to 2024 academic year tuition fees are due in full by Monday 02 October 2023

If you've been approved for a tuition fee loan from the UK government, you do not need to do anything. The Student Loans Company will pay your fees to us. 
If you're funding your own studies, you can choose to pay in 3 instalments. Payments are due as follows: 

For the 2024 to 2025 academic year tuition fees are due in full by  Monday 30 September 2024.

Postgraduate taught students

Courses starting in September 2023

Your fees are due in full by 02 October 2023.

Alternatively, you can choose to pay in 3 instalments. Payments are due as follows:

Courses starting in January /February 2024

Your fees are due in full by Monday 06 February 2024.

Alternatively, you can choose to pay in instalments. Payments are due as follows:

Home students with a Masters loan from the Student Loan Company should pay their fees as soon as their loan payment has been made and no later than

Courses starting in September 2024

Your fees are due in full by 30 September 2024.

Alternatively, you can choose to pay in 3 instalments. Payments are due as follows:

Courses starting in January /February 2025

Your fees are due in full by Monday 03 February 2025.

Alternatively, you can choose to pay in instalments. Payments are due as follows:

Home students with a Masters loan from the Student Loan Company should pay their fees as soon as their loan payment has been made and no later than

Deposits

International students on most full-time postgraduate courses need to pay £2,000 of their tuition fee in advance as a deposit.

If your course requires a deposit, we will send details and full terms and conditions in your offer letter.

You can pay your deposit online if your course requires it.

Postgraduate research students 

Your fees are due in full within 7 days of starting your programme.

Courses starting between 1 August 2023 and 31 October 2023

You can choose to pay in 3 instalments. Payments are due as follows:

Students starting between 1 November 2023 and 31 December 2023

You can choose to pay in 3 instalments. Payments are due as follows:

Students starting between 1 January 2024 and 22 April 2024 

You can choose to pay in 2 instalments. Payments are due as follows:

Students starting after 22 April 2024

100% fees are due on enrolment   

Your fees are due in full within 7 days of starting your programme.

Courses starting between 1 August 2024 and 31 October 2024

You can choose to pay in 3 instalments. Payments are due as follows:

Students starting between 1 November 2024 and 31 December 2024

You can choose to pay in 3 instalments. Payments are due as follows:

Students starting between 1 January 2025 and 28 April 2025 

You can choose to pay in 2 instalments. Payments are due as follows:

Students starting after 28 April 2025

100% fees are due on enrolment    

Sponsors and other funders

You must let us know by 1 October if a sponsor or other funder will be paying your fees. You can give us their details when you enrol. If you need to change the details you’ve given us, you must complete Sponsorship Form SP1 (PDF, 152KB). Send the completed form to sponfee@soton.ac.uk.

Sponsors or other funders can make a payment online. They cannot pay fees in instalments.

You'll be responsible for paying your full fees if:

Refunds

It is the policy of the University to issue refunds where appropriate to students who withdraw or suspend from their course. The refund amount will depend on the timing of the withdrawal and the student’s programme of study. However, if a student has a University debt, it will be subtracted from any refunds of fees payable.
