About the Bioinformatics Research Facility (BIO-R)
The Bioinformatics Research Facility (BIO-R) is based in the Faculty of Medicine’s Somers building at the hospital campus. The BIO-R serves as a centralised resource for providing expert bioinformatics consulting and data analysis solutions. Investigators from within and outside the Faculty of Medicine on both grant-funded and chargeback-based projects for the analysis of large-scale biological datasets produced by high-throughput ‘omics’ experiments can use the service.
The BIO-R’s mission is to build and maintain an infrastructure that provides access to bioinformatics expertise to enable research, enhance impact, and serve as a collaborative research hub.
- provides a core team of skilled bioinformaticians, with up-to-date training and the latest data analysis methods.
- provides a milestone-led, and sustainable service delivery model to provide users with workplans for data processing and analytical delivery.
- facilitates access to state-of-the-art high-performance computing through the IRIDIS infrastructure, and relevant software packages and pipelines.
- contributes to the educational portfolio of the faculty, providing training to users at all levels of expertise (including external clients).
