Council membership rules

The Council must have members drawn from the 5 groups of University officers, the Senate, staff, students and independent citizens.

Class 1: Officers 

  • The Chair of Council.
  • The Vice-Chair of Council.
  • The Council Treasurer.
  • The President and Vice-Chancellor and one of the Vice-Presidents nominated by the President and Vice-Chancellor.

Class 2: Independent members

Between 8 and 12 independent Council members. At least one shall be a graduate of the University. 

Class 3: Senate members

Up to 4 members of the Senate. They're nominated by the Senate and appointed by the Council, in accordance with such procedures as the Council may decide from time to time.

Class 4: Staff member

A member of the full-time staff of the University (other than academic staff) that staff nominate and the Council appoints, in accordance with such procedures as the Council may decide from time to time. 

Class 5: Student member

The President of the Union of Students.
